Tom Wiandt, Fluke Calibration Director of Metrology, Temperature, wins the 2011 ASTM International Award of Merit

Award is the highest recognition given to individual members

Everett, Wash. – Tom Wiandt, Director of Metrology, Temperature for Fluke Calibration, has been named the recipient of the 2011 ASTM International Award of Merit. The annual award is the highest society honor granted to an individual member for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Recipients also receive the honorary title of Fellow.

The announcement was made at ASTM International’s 2011 Committee Week, held in May in Anaheim, Calif. Wiandt was presented the award by Catherine Pilarz, chairperson of the ASTM board of directors, and E20 Temperature Chair Steven Dale.
ASTM International, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), is a globally recognized leader in the development and delivery of international voluntary consensus standards. Today, some 12,000 ASTM standards are used around the world to improve product quality, enhance safety, facilitate market access and trade, and build consumer confidence.

Wiandt, who joined Fluke Calibration in 2001 when it purchased Hart Scientific, works in Fluke Calibration’s American Fork, Utah facility and is recognized as a leader in the temperature calibration community. He was Metrology Manager at Hart Scientific from 1995-2001.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, with concentrations in math/physics and technical writing, from Ellis University, Chicago, Ill. He serves on the ASTM E20 Temperature Committee and has completed a number of National Institute of Standards and Technology courses, including contact thermography, IR calibration, DCV and time/frequency.

Wiandt is the second Fluke Calibration metrologist to receive industry recognition this year, joining Jeff Gust, Chief Corporate Metrologist, who is the recipient of the 2011 Woodington Award.
